Modern Gardens Magazine Redesign
The challenge was to redesign an existing magazine called Modern Gardens in a unique and fresh way that communicates how easy it is to make the most out of any outdoor space at an affordable cost. The purpose of the magazine is to help people create a garden at their home, and make people feel like their garden can be transformed by reading Modern Gardens magazine.
The personality that I am targeting as I position this magazine is middle-class home gardening in New England. The personality of my magazine is unique, playful, and fresh. The magazine has a welcoming, charming feel to it that will draw in a wider audience. I combined friendly colors with clean typefaces to add to the combination of classically elegant, bubbly, and fresh. My magazine redesign has a lot of negative space with pops of vibrant, playful colors. This contrasts with smooth, crisp typefaces that add a touch of modernity to the personality of the magazine. There are a number of design elements that help set the tone for the magazine. I chose Humanist, Geometric, and Transitional typefaces because they give the audience a calm and relaxed feeling. The colors scheme is bold, bright, and includes pops of color. I am using shades of green to elicit relate to the target audience of outdoor lovers. The purple and pink pops of color add hints of serenity through the elegance of the colors.
